A corrupt approach has been suspected by a player in the ongoing National T20 Cup and he directly has reported the bookie to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The national board has chosen to keep both identities hidden as it involves sensitive data and has forwarded the case to the Federal Investigation Unit (FIA) for further action.
The official of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has thanked the player for directly reaching to ACU and reporting his inspection and has begun investigations for serious implementation of laws.
With the zero-tolerance policy of the PCB in such matters, the bookie might be subjected to punishment according to the legal administration and approaches.
National T20 Cup: A player reports corrupt approach
“I have spoken with the player to compliment and thank him for following the PCB Anti-Corruption Code and reporting the approach to the anti-corruption officer.
“Following the report, the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit carried out its own probe and unearthed some sensitive information, which has been forwarded to the FIA, which has the required expertise, resources, capabilities, and powers to investigate such matters,” the ACU director was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
“As we cannot jeopardize an ongoing investigation, it will be inappropriate for us to share any specifics of the approach.
“However, the PCB as a responsible member of the International Cricket Council will continue to keep the game’s administrative body abreast of the progress in investigations as part of our information-sharing approach,” he further said.
