Shane Watson, The ride of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) was much-awaited and it finally has taken place on 19th September as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) locked the horns.
It was expected that CSK might lose on lacking their major players as Raina and Harbhajan left. They also dropped Imran Tahir and Dwayne Bravo and it was astonishing to see the entirely unpredicted side. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians (MI) were more dominant in international players. CSK had a losing streak on consecutive five matches against Sharma’s MI and it has finally been broken.
The major asset, that worked for CSK, was Ambati Rayudu. The batting sensation smashed 71 runs off 48 balls. The player reached the ground when his side was already losing the openers. With Faf Du Plessis, he added a 115-run partnership and it contributed directly to the match-winning.
The player is quite consistent in domestic leagues. However, despite the fact, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) did not select him in the squad for the World Cup 2019. Shane Watson believes that it was India’s loss as they did not choose him and lost the mega-event later.
Shane Watson says it was India’s loss to miss out on Ambati Rayudi in the World Cup 2019
“Rayudu batted absolutely beautifully for his 71 (in 48 balls),” Watson said in a chat during his T20 Superstars podcast. “He is an incredibly talented batsman and I think it was a loss for India’s one-day team by not picking him in the 2019 World Cup squad.
“To be able to take down Jasprit Bumrah as he did was incredible. He’s got scoring options all around the ground. And he’s got a fair bit of point to prove as well against his old team Mumbai.”
