Islamabad United, The winners of the first and third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the most successful franchise in the history of the league, have proudly declared Pakistan’s star all-rounder, Shadab Khan, as the skipper of the ISLU franchise.
Shadab came through ISLU after being picked up as a seventh overall emerging category pick in the draft of HBL PSL 2. Since then, he has taken 29 wickets in 32 matches at an avg over of 6.89. Shadab had captained ISLU for 4 matches as a replacement of M.Sami when he was ill and went on with two victories encountered. He was the vice-captain of the franchise in PSL 4.
Regarding the appointment, Ali Naqvi, the owner of the franchise said,
“We always focus on developing our Pakistani players across all disciplines – cricket playing ability, general physical and mental fitness, and leadership skills. It’s one of the remits we have given to our coaches and managers that Islamabad United shall be a graduating school for the national team. Nothing gives us more joy and pride than when one of our young boys makes the step up to the national team.”

He further added,
“Shadab’s knowledge and understanding of the game means that he is the one ideally suited for responsibility. When an experienced group around him and a culture that is already established, I’m sure this will be ideal for him. We wish him the best of luck and hope success for the team.”
Shadab Khan himself has welcomed the opportunity and responsibility saying,
“It’s an honor for me that Ali Bhai and the franchise have considered me for this role. I hope to learn as much as I can from this opportunity and hope that will live up to the expectations they have of me. ISLU has made me what I’m today, and I hope to repay the faith they have invested in me for so many years. I know what it takes to win the PSL and work with Misbah Bhai. I hope so we can challenge the trophy again.”
