New Zealand Announces T20I Squad For Australia Tour Of New Zealand 2021 which begins on February 22, 2021. New Zealand cricket has named their 13-member squad against Australia for the 5-match T-20I series, scheduled to start on February 22. The Kiwis would be led by Kane Williamson, their usual skipper. Included in the squad was Martin Guptill, who was dealing with a hamstring injury. However, if Guptill does not gain his full fitness, he will be replaced by Finn Allen, who was in the top spot in the recently completed Super Smash.
New Zealand team Selector Gavin Larsen commented on the fitness of the opener Martin Guptill and said:
“Martin’s our incumbent opener and our highest T20 International run-scorer, so we’re backing him to do the job at the top of the order. He will need to prove his fitness, and it’s good to know we have a ready replacement in Finn on standby.”
It will be the first tour of Australia to New Zealand after the COVID-19 pandemic. Before COVID-19 Australia last visited New Zealand back in February 2018. Last year Australian team was willing to tour New Zealand for the 3 T20I series in March 2020. But they have to cancel it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
New Zealand welcomed the Pakistan team for 3 T20Is and 2 Tests series. In the 2 match test series, New Zealand whitewashed Pakistan by winning both matches of the series. They won the 1st Test match of the series by 101 runs and they won the 2nd Test match by an innings and 176 runs. In the T20I series, New Zealand won the series by leading the series by 2-1.
